don’t worry, be snappy

This Aripana was drawn by various female members of the Nepali community of AIT last 22 November during the annual food fair.  Aripanas are usually made on ritually prescribed occasions or on the clean swept ground of the courtyards or inside the houses in Nepal. In practice, the details of the various Aripanas are learned by girls from watching the work of their mothers, grandmothers and other female relatives and neighbors.
